Meet Our Volunteers

Humanitarian work is made possible by people who choose to give their time, skills, and energy to something bigger than themselves. At HayaHelps, our volunteers come from different backgrounds, bring different skills, and have different reasons for getting involved, but they share one thing: a desire to make a difference.

This time, we’re highlighting three HayaHelps volunteers: Marium Khan, Muhammad Shuaib, and Muhammad Bilal.

Marium Khan

Mairum has been volunteering with HayaHelps since 2022, supporting programs including Back to School Heroes, Warm Up the 6ix, and other events whenever she is able to.

For Mairum, volunteering is a direct way to take action when things feel helpless.

"Whenever I felt helpless about the world, I remembered that I was able to do something with my own two hands. HayaHelps allowed me to do that by being a part of their initiatives."

During her time at these events, she has found the volunteer community to be very sweet, noting that people frequently bring their families and children to help out. One specific moment that stood out to her was during a Warm Up the 6ix event, where a couple had brought their young children. Seeing them come together to show their children how they too can help was a highly positive experience for her.

This hands-on work has brought a strong sense of fulfillment. For Marium, the most rewarding part of volunteering is knowing that there are ways to make a difference right in front of her, and knowing that someone was able to stay warm or stay fed because of these opportunities.

Outside of her volunteer work, Marium is passionate about photography and cats.

For anyone who is currently debating whether or not to volunteer with HayaHelps, Marium’s advice is simple:

"I would tell them to just stop by, even for a couple of hours. We spend hours on end doing god knows what, so a couple hours to give back and help out communities who need it won’t be so bad. In fact, it will change you as a person for the better."

Muhammad Shuaib

Muhammad Shuaib began volunteering with HayaHelps in 2024, participating in two of our major Programs: Back to School Heroes and Warm Up The 6ix.

For Muhammad, the decision to get involved was driven by a clear purpose; he was inspired to join HayaHelps to support Muslim female leadership.

During his time hands-on at our events, the environment stood out to him as being incredibly welcoming to both families and youth, making it an inviting space for all generations to give back together.

When it comes to what he found most rewarding about the experience, Muhammad points directly to the organization's operational integrity, specifically valuing HayaHelps' 100% donation policy.

Outside of his volunteer work, Muhammad brings his skills to the digital world as a Tech and Cybersecurity Expert.

For anyone who is currently debating whether or not to step up and volunteer with the team, Muhammad's advice highlights the grounded, community-first nature of the group:

"It's not a bling organization that spends 1000s on marketing, rather a humble organization."

Muhammad Bilal

Muhammad Bilal has come back to volunteering with HayaHelps for the past three months, and previously had dedicating his time to our Water & Sanitation (WASH) program.

For Muhammad, his motivation was simple:

“To help others.”

Through his work with the WASH program, he was able to take part in international relief efforts. His favorite, most unforgettable memory comes from a distribution mission in Thatta, Sindh, following the devastating floods. 

He has found the hands-on experience to be deeply fulfilling on multiple levels, sharing that the most rewarding part has been both "helping others and learning new skills."

Outside of his volunteer work, Muhammad enjoys capturing the world around him through his passion for photography.

To anyone who is on the fence about getting involved with HayaHelps, Muhammad encourages you to take the leap!

Every Volunteer Has a Story

Marium Khan, Muhammad Shuaib, and Muhammad Bilal each came to HayaHelps for different reasons. One wanted to turn feelings of helplessness into action, another wanted to support Muslim female leadership, and another simply wanted to help others.

Their stories show that there is no single way to become a humanitarian.

Whether you’re packing relief kits, supporting a WASH initiative, helping at the community event, using your professional skills, or simply giving a few hours of your time, your contribution matters.
